i. Jihad
The Literal meaning of Jihad is to do some effort and in religious terms, it means that very effort which is done to safeguard religion and its propagation and to defend Muslim ummah. The demand of believing Allah as the ruler of this world is that every Muslim follows His commandments in all aspects of life and rejects order of anyone else which contradicts His commandment. If someone tries to implement his own law, then he should stand against that power even endangering his own life in this concern. Other all the rituals of the pillars of Islam produce the same spirit of self sacrifice and without this spirit neither the existence of Islam nor its propagation are possible.
Literal meanings of Jihad:
Jihad is derived from 'Juhd' which means 'to strive.
Explanatory meanings of Jihad:
In religious terms, it is that struggle which is done for the reservation of Islam, for its propagation and defence of Muslim ummah,
ii. Difference between war and Jihad:
The aim of war is to satisfy individual's communal or national lust, or economic dominance or passion of dominance. To achieve this target, they do all type of cruelty, terrorism and brutality. In case of victory, they spoil lives, wealth, honor, prestige and every thing.
The aim of Jihad is to please Allah, freeing people from evil forces and their dominance, to revive their honor and prestige. A believer surrenders to a code of war given by Allah and then there is never ever a tinge of his personal interest in it.
